Anonymous Drop Cap 1n honor of International Women’s Day, I want to profile powerful and influential women of the world who also have a great sense of style.

Michelle Obama:

Michelle is not just the wife of former president Barack Obama, she is also a lawyer, writer, and social activist. As her time as the first lady, she fought for the rights of the LGBT community, was an advocate for poverty awareness, nutrition, and exercise, and a was a fashion icon that women looked up to. She made the fashion world aware of Jason Wu, and loves to wear other great designers like Naeem Kahn, Michael Kors, and Azzedine Alaia. She always perfectly balances her own style and what is appropriate for the first lady.

Amal Clooney:

Now one of the most talked about lawyers in the world, due to her marriage George Clooney, Amal has been thrown into the world of celebrities and paparazzi’s. Although she has been pushed into this environment, she remains a lawyer first. Amal specializes in human rights and international law and has represented several big names in the political world including Julian Assange, the founder of WikiLeaks, and the former Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko. She also has represented rape victims of ISIS in the hopes of jailing the criminals. Her passion for fighting for justice is matched by her impeccable style. She has worn several notable designers including Bottega Veneta, Dior, Dolce & Gabbana, and Proenza Schouler. Amal knows how to dress professionally, but also has a unique and fun sense of style that she wears during her personal life.

Tory Burch:

Tory Burch is known best for her preppy, colorful designs that match a trip to the Bahamas perfectly. But she is more than just a designer, she is an outspoken feminist and has founded the Tory Burch Foundation, which empowers female entrepreneurs by providing access to capital, education, and digital resources. She recently has focused on reclaiming the word ambitious with the hashtag “embraceambition” in an effort to end the negative connotation of the word when used in terms of a woman. She is a woman in fashion who is growing her successful brand while also advocating for female rights and doing all of it proudly.

These women all have immense power and confidence in themselves, an attribute all women should aim to attain. They demonstrate that being dressed well and being involved in the fashion industry does not mean they are dumb, an adjective often associated with models or designers because they may not have gone to a traditional university. They are hard-working, passionate leaders who also know how to rock their wardrobe.
