Trend to Try: The Midi Skirt

Fashion has repeated it self (yet again), and the midi skirt is back! Much to the dismay of men around the world, it has happened; it’s cool to wear longer skirts again (sorry boys). Not since Christian Dior’s 1947 New Look has a descending hemline raised such attention. The midi skirt is polished, and when styled correctly is at the forefront of sophistication. It’s a great piece to have if you want to shake up (and upgrade!) your look and own one of the top trends of 2012.

A few tips for wearing a midi:

  • Shape. Balance out the length by wearing it high waisted or using a belt to create shape.
  • Length. If you are short, go for a skirt that hits just above or at your knee, otherwise you’ll be dwarfed. If you’re tall, you’re pretty much good to go. Ideally, the midi should hit your leg mid shin where your leg begins to thin out.
  • The Top. If you’re wearing a midi with some texture and volume, keep it simple. Match a bold midi with a neutral blouse, or a closer fitted sweater or top. But don’t shy away from fitted midi skirts! Balance these out with a looser top.
